Dr. Lucy Roche

Where did you complete most of your training?
I completed most of my training at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK but I also spent time at SickKids and with the adult congenital team at TGH.

What is your special area of (clinical/research) interest?
I am interested in all aspects of congenital heart disease from childhood right through to late adult life. At the moment one of my roles is to run a specialist clinic for adults with congenital heart disease who also have or are particularly vulnerable to developing heart failure.

What is the best thing about working in CHD?
I think the best thing about working in CHD are the people you meet and the complex challenges posed by our patients and their varied conditions.

What is one thing that you think that all patients with CHD should know?
I wouldn't presume to tell anyone what the one thing they should know is. There are so many things to know and learn in life.

If you weren’t a doctor, what would you be?
If I wasn't a doctor I think I might well be an investigative journalist.

Do you have any interesting hobbies or talents or pets?
I'm terrible at jokes - you want Dr. Crean for that!
