Barbara Bailey

Where did you complete most of your training?
I completed my undergraduate nursing program at McMaster University, Hamilton, ON. In 2007, I completed the acute care nurse practitioner, master’s program at the University of Toronto.

What is your special area of interest?
I have a special interest in adult congenital heart disease specifically in the postoperative management of adult congenital heart disease patients.

What is the best thing about working in CHD?
Building impactful partnerships with my patients and their families. Making a positive difference in their lives in the hope to improve their patient experience along their health journey.

What is one thing that you think that all patients with CHD should know?
That living with congenital heart disease is a lifelong journey which requires ongoing surveillance and at times medical or surgical management.  There may be times during that journey you don’t know how to get the help you need which can be stressful, do not give up but rather be an advocate for yourself or your loved one, ask questions and know there is a team to support you.

If you weren’t a doctor/nurse, what would you be?
If I wasn’t a nurse/nurse practitioner I would love to sing, to be on stage and perform. Too move people by my voice.

Do you have any interesting hobbies or talents or pets?
I enjoy yoga, actually any form of exercise. Being with my family and friends. I love to read and I especially love good food!
